Sniper build - Clod

A bit of planning goes into doing a replica.  This one is being done for a 17"wb and Clod axles.

Using the axle locations of the real vehicle, I was able to determine the calculations needed to break down tube length for each printed image, based on the starting point of the needed 17" wb vs the actual wb of the real Sniper.  Once that calculation is figured, I can base that to figure out correct dimensions for any pic of the chassis, regardless of distance of original photo and angles shot at.

It's going to be quite large.  These are the left and right side door sections, measuring roughly 9" long.  The entire chassis will be about 2 feet long.  The paper there in the pic is standard 8.5x11" paper.

I could not find any pics of the Sniper chassis that gave me a good angle to determine the correct width, so I based the width on a Clod axle, it turned out to be about 8" wide.

Here is the hood line mocked up, as well as the roof line.

I got a lot done today.  The side panels are done.  The hood and windshield sections are done.

The hood section was tricky, there are several complex curves involved and they had to end up at specific points on the chassis.

Comparison to a pic of the real chassis.  As expected, it's perfectly scale.

Tomorrow I should be able to finish the roof and the rear section.

Missed a day of building when I cut my fingers at my sons Cub Scout meeting.  The funny part?  It was the meting where they learn to safely use their pocketknives...

Anyway, got the rear section started.

I was looking at the chassis vs the pics and something was not right, I couldn't put my finger on it.

Then I realized the door section was too long.  I shortened it by roughly 2" and it brought it back down to the correct look.

I also finally was able to work on this chassis, after a huge wind storm that knocked out power for nearly a week in some areas.

I finished the roof section.

The roof line turned out perfect, looks mean.  I need to finish the front hood lower section.

I am going to make it thinner, out of proportion, in order to give the front section the support it needs as well as giving room for good articulation.

Same goes for the rear, just need to add some lower supports and the smaller diameter "trim" bar along the rear corners.

I am still trying to decide if I should go further and add the tuck along the bottom.  I am just afraid it will make it too tall-looking.

A lot of time later...

It's done.  I need to make the shock mount plates and the belly pan, then it's off to Spain!

I need some daylight pics...
