BMRC Clod scaler
|
|
After I sold off my Clod cabbed, tube bed High Lift, I regretted it, so I am going to build a replica. This time, it'll be TLT axles on a Diaz Dtrail12 chassis, probably an E-Maxx trans for 2 gears. Anyway, here goes with the body mods...

Styrene requires a modeling glue.
It works by dissolving the plastic parts and curing them into one part.
CA works, but it will crack under stress. |

This is the putty I use for filler.

After the cab and bed were separated and the back of the bed cleaned up, I traced the opening onto a thick sheet of styrene and cut it out.

One brace across the top and two form-fitted ones on the side are all that are required. The bottom doesn't matter at this point because it will eventually be notched to clear the chassis, but that comes later when it's time to mount the cab.

Here is the back installed. I also run a small bead of modeling cement along the seam so it will soak into every possible point at the joint.

Once the glue is dry, a little putty to fill in the small gaps.

The mounting location I chose for the rear of the cab was at an angled part of the body, so I had to create a level surface for the body mount to butt up against. This will be shaved to the correct angle, then drilled and countersunk.

Here it is completed, you can see how it works.

The hole was countersunk so I don't have to stare at a bolt sticking out. This is only mockup, the final one will be a nice clean button head bolt.

The final stance.

With the ride height planned for this one, I think this will be a good position for the shock mounts.

This thing is gonna look sick. I have to keep reminding myself that it is not staying black, it looks so good like this!
